I thought this might appeal to my fellow Higher Powers types.

For two years now, we have had a Dublin Valentine's Day tradition of gothic romance and high tragedy, acted out in a LARP called The Dance and the Dawn, written by Warren Tusk and based on a game by Dev Purkayastha, where players play Lords of Ice and Ladies of Ash seeking their final chance at True Love.
But no story can repeat itself forever. Next year, a new story will begin. Before this, in the best tradition of The Dance and the Dawn, there is one last chance for those who have never played to enter the Courts of Ice and Ash in the search for True Love.
Expect romance, intrigue, plotting, swordfights, and beautiful dresses! If you're interested in playing a Lord or Lady of Ice or Ash, in dancing the night away in a crowd of beautifully-dressed hopeless Gothic romantics, and in hating the idea of True Love while desperately hoping for it, please get in touch!
Once upon a time, or even more, the Queen of Ice invited the Duke of Ash and his Ladies to her Court for a Midnight Ball. Lords and Ladies danced until the Dawn, in one last desperate attempt to find their True Love. The Queen smiled and the Duke sighed. And the cycle of Ice and Ash continued, year on year, story on story. So it always was; so it was surely meant to always be.
But any story, even a fairy tale, must end. There are Powers greater than the Duke and Queen, and no rose of Ice or Ash will endure forever. Tonight the Courts of Ice and Ash draw together one final time, for one last chance and one last dance. Will the Ladies leave with their True Loves come the Dawn, or lose their final chance for happiness?
Come and dance. We will wake at Dawn from Dreams of Ice and Ash.
Some practical points:
- This LARP is very much a set piece – as such, we need to cast the parts entirely in advance.
- The LARP takes the form of an evening of romancing, dancing and (acted) dueling.
- As this is a game involving dancing, certain levels of physical contact are expected.
- You don't need to be able to dance! We will show a few basic steps in advance.
- If you have played any variant of Dance and the Dawn before, unfortunately you can't play a main character. However we have a number of minor roles available for those who want to be a part of the experience again.
- It's fine if you haven't LARPed before, but let us know so we can go over things with you.
- Costuming is required for this game; the style is Gothic Romantic (any interpretation of that is fine). If you don't have costume materials, or if you've any questions about costuming, get in touch – we can help you out!
- The game will take place on Sunday December 1st, at a venue in Dublin city centre, from 5pm to 11pm, so you will need to be free for that day and all of that time.
- The game is entirely free.
You can contact us at dancedawndublin@gmail.com if you've any questions about the game, are interested in playing, or would just like to know more about this LARP thing – we'll get back to you with more detailed information and questions. We'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch by the end of October if you'd like to play.
