Hey all. just a quick update on the event. We're opening ticket sales this Thursday and as there's no paying on the gate you're advised to make sure you book at some point if you want to go. Don't worry though, registrations will be open until August 14th. troops-in-contact.com/2013/05/28/the-registration-post/As noted above there is a special ticket price for larpers. I've decided to allow revivification at the expense of progressively longer respawns just in case you want to retain a character. This is a per-respawn decision so don't feel locked into making it. I'm also now open to character concepts including a limited number of alts. Please send them to my email address (pm me if you don't know it).

Traders, passers-through, medics, crazed gun-toting survivalists? What sort of place is our town? Can you give us anything to hang our backgrounds on, or should we try and build some sort of collaborative background for the place?

Smashin'! What sort of thing are you looking for? Traders, passers-through, medics, crazed gun-toting survivalists? What sort of place is our town? Can you give us anything to hang our backgrounds on, or should we try and build some sort of collaborative background for the place? Ok, the basics of the town is that it's a little village in a Central American banana republic. Primary industry is agriculture and the usual stuff hanging off the back of that, you'd have some factories but we're talking small fry stuff, a big shed people gut pigs in type of thing. Some established characters would be: - Mayor Pedro El Leon (playable) - A charismatic populist who is trying to do his best to keep his little town together in the face of an increasingly divisive conflict
- Osvaldo Escobar - A recently deceased business man who had retired to Las Curenas admiring its tranquil agrarian surrounds
- Guillermo Figueroa - A regional government civil servant assigned to the mayors office
Note that the Mayor is a playable character, I'm happy to receive applications. Character ideas you could consider would be: - A barman
- Farmers & farmhands
- Journalists (local or otherwise)
- Trappers (illegal or otherwise)
- Doctors (local or aid organisation)
- Domiguans (Domigua is the country next door which has just thrown in behind one of the factions in the civil war)
- War junkies (Noncombatants who get a thrill from being in a warzone)
- Deserters
- Curmudgeonly old veterans
- Constables
- Representatives of one of the two governments (or the Domiguan one!)
- Cleregy (someone has already requested this but don't be put off)
- Criminals (both dumb and smart)
- I have a fantastic hook for a solicitor
As for the town itself, I'm happy to let you guys hash out what crops it produces, what the local customs are etc ... Please keep me party to any discussions as A) There are some things established about the town, B) There are some set piece interactions we will be throwing out, C) I want to make sure my pregens mesh and D) It helps me ensure that any plot hooks I come up with are consistent with your view of the town. Established facts about the town: - It's quite near the Domiguan border
- The Mayor was elected pre-war and as the situation degraded became essentially the established government
- The town is currently politically independent and essentially waiting for one side or the other to win, your personal alignment is entirely up to you. You should probably decide how patriotic you want to be to Rionegro (which is a Republic) too.
- Most of the citizens are rotating members of a civil defence, this is a very amateur organisation put together by the Mayor as forces moved into the area.
- Although trade has remained open the war has had an effect, times are a bit tight, the town is beginning to show a lack of maintenance, some goods (medical supplies particularly) are in short supply
- Aside from a few aid workers the town hasn't seen anything in the way of intervention from the international community

We've now opened private boards on airsofter.ie and I'll be posting more detailed information there in the run up to the game but you can only access it once your ticket is bought.
Speaking of which, there's only 7 weeks til the game! You don't need to have a character sorted out to book, just the ticket price and if you have any questions or concerns about attending I'd be happy to answer them.

Not sure I'm in the right place to make my booking. If I go to troops-in-contact.com/events/civilians-of-las-curenas-and-larp-players/ it says I've got "three steps to go to below" and I can't see anything below. Any ideas? On the characters front, I had this gonzo idea about people designing a character in one sentence "I'm the local grocer" and then mandating that everyone contacts at least another two of the group here and working out a story hook between the two of us. Also, I strongly suggested to one of the people commenting in this thread that I thought they'd make an excellent mayor and they should volunteer. I wonder did they?

Looks ok to me at the moment, we released 50 more airsoft tickets earlier today which sold out immediately and the server derped a bit under the load.
If the problem persists could you forward me on debugging information and I'll pass it on to the server guy.

They didn't, but they probably should now. Ahem, People of this small inconsequential village. Are you tired of political corruption? Vote me as your mayor and I will keep corruption to the absolute minimum needed to keep me in the manner to which I wish to become accustumed. I swear to you that I will be there for you, right up until I am elected and in the months coming up to the next election. In short, let me be your Mayor, because none of you are going to do it. *Steps down off box*

Go for it, let me know what you came up with and I'll throw some appropriate plots your way. This is a very rules light system, there aren't any skills or what have you so no need to worry about that whole end of character building. Also, I strongly suggested to one of the people commenting in this thread that I thought they'd make an excellent mayor and they should volunteer. I wonder did they? He has now, and in the absence of competing bids he can consider it your fault for getting him into this when he sees his brief.

So I'd quite like to play the barman if available. Gives me a chance to press the flesh of the combatants and use up some of the gajillion liters of water I brought to Oisin's Max Rickard Memorial LRP thing and didn't drink.
"Soulless Eddie" AKA Eduardo Batista.
Hugh - will we be based in that village area in Bellurgan I remember from the first Rionegro?
Also - that's me and Ian confirmed (I swear I'll book my ticket this weekend)... Synergy, Nimue, Xander - you guys still in? If so, let's hear character ideas out of you. If not, let me know so I can offer out car spaces again. I'm working on Cat/Cesaria Vargas and hear that Dav (who played that Malinese dodgy terrorist type that got murdered) may be interested.
Anyone who's not officially declared interest - 200 people in a field playing the same game? Where else are you going to get that in this country?
